Combined Heat and Power-Effective Use of Primary Energy for CEWO-Wortmann Gmbh & Co KG

CEWO-Wortmann GmbH & Co KG processes eggs to make pasteurised egg products and deliver their clients with liquid whole egg, yolk or white.
Claudia Hentze, Director of the East Westphalian family business has been working successfully with Expense Reduction Analysts energy expert Andreas Brünger for the past 3 years. Through the optimisation of electricity and LPG purchase, the company has achieved significant savings.

The good collaboration between CEWO-Wortmann and Expense Reduction Analysts led to the installation of a heat power station in order to generate long-term savings.

After a comprehensive analysis of the production facilities and the estimation of different scenario, Expense Reduction Analysts recommended the construction of a heat power station fired by natural gas, although this also meant planning a natural gas terminal.
Liquid egg is pasteurised at about 70°C and then cooled down. This production process meets the critical success factors of a heat power station: the continuous demand for heat is covered through the heat from the power plant and the self-generated electricity is also for the cooling of the egg.
The return on investment will take less than 4 years; projected yearly savings of over 50,000 Euros will be set vs. the initial investment of 200,000 Euros. If the energy market prices go up, so will the savings generated by the power plant. Moreover, Expense Reduction Analysts asked for the planning permission, applied for government funding and will actively assist during the first years to ensure the realisation of savings.

“Expense Reduction Analyst has taken responsibility for the whole planning and project management; for us it meant a greater advantage both in terms of finance and time.”
